Questions and Answers |
Q. Is the durability of Belgard's Concrete Pavers sufficient to withstand heavy loads ?
A. Belgard interlocking paving blocks are ideal for all types of traffic and vehicle weights. It works well for driveways, garages, walkways, bus terminals, parking lots, loading bays, fueling stations, container terminals, and other similar applications. Special measures should be considered while using abnormal truck weights or solid-tyred vehicles. The soil-base compaction is critical to its long-term performance. As a result, the base must be firmly compacted to avoid block sinking. The Paveroutlet representative or team will advise you on the soil condition as well as the best compaction material and procedure for your garden or backyard.
Q. Will the color of Belgard's Pavement fade with time ?
A. Belgard uses synthetic iron oxide pigments that are exceptionally durable and fade resistant in all Belgard pavers. When a condition known as efflorescence occurs, a feeling of fading might develop. Efflorescence occurs when moisture brings water soluble salts within the pavers to the surface, where they react with air to produce tiny crystals on the paver surface. Efflorescence might appear as a mild haze or as a white powdery covering. Most concrete materials and certain clay goods, particularly those with mortar in their structure, exhibit this characteristic. Efflorescence is not dangerous, and it is advised that you let the weathering process remove it.
Q. Can you put paving on top of an existing Concrete Floor ?
A. It can be done. However Blocks with specific height may have to be specially made to match the heights of existing floors.
Thanks to the incredible patent-pending formula of Techniseal® DriBond™ advanced mudset, concrete removal is completely unnecessary, as long as the slab is structurally sound. A driveway, patio, walkway or pool deck can be completely transformed in less than 48 hours, and for significantly less cost than concrete removal and replacement. DriBond installs like sand — filling the cracks and seams of a sound concrete slab — to provide a bedding surface for the installation of thin overlay pavers (including concrete pavers, porcelain pavers, or natural stone.) Activated with water, DriBond sets like concrete to create a durable bond. The result is a stunning outdoor living space with lasting beauty. Q. How can I remove Moss or Mold from my Pavers ?
A. Generally, the Belgard Smooth Paver series has been moss-treated prior to installation. If it does appear, dilute liquid bleach with water (10 parts water to one part bleach). Take cautious not to get it on any plant material. Keep in mind that nothing will prevent moss and mold from reappearing in a shaded, moist location.
Q. What are the white deposits on my Pavers ?
A. That's called "Efflorescence", a natural and common occurrence in many concrete products. Efflorescence occurs when natural salts come to the surface and leave behind a white deposit that can normally be brushed off. This is not a product defect or harmful to pavers and walls and Belgard accepts no liability for its occurrence. It will usually weather away with time.
Q. What can I do if my Pavers are Stained or damaged ?
A. Special "Maintenance & Restoration" products are available to clean different types of stains from all concrete products. If they are exceptionally stained or are damaged, individual units can be removed and replaced. Remove the sand around these pavers and use two flat head screwdrivers to lift the paver out. Rocking the paver gently in a back-and-forth motion will facilitate removal.
Q. What methods to use with different types of Stains ?
A. For: Blood, Candy, Ketchup, Mustard, Food Stains - Allow liquid detergent to penetrate for 20-30 minutes at maximum power. With hot water, scrub and rinse. It is simpler to remove stains if you treat them right away.
For Caulking and Chewing Gum - Chill with ice and scrape off as much as you can. Make a talcum powder and denatured alcohol poultice (paste). Scrub the affected area with a poultice and a firm brush before rinsing with hot water and a strong detergent. For Clay Soil - Scrape away dried material before scrubbing with detergent and rinsing with hot water. For Leaf, Wood Rot and Tobacco - Scrub with a firm bristles brush and rinse with household bleach. For Cement Mortar - Let harden then carefully remove hardened spots with a trowel, putty knife or chisel. Then clean with sulfuric acid (more commonly known as battery acid). For Oil and Grease - Wipe up any spills with rags or paper towels. Then, using sulfuric acid (sometimes known as battery acid), clean it. For Paint (fresh) - Soak up as much paint as possible without wiping. If the paint is water-based latex, soak it in hot water and scrape it with scouring powder and a strong brush until the improvement stops. Allow to dry before treating as you would dried paint. For Paint (dried) - It is possible to use a commercial paint stripper. Allow for a generous coat to dry for 20-30 minutes. Scrub the area gently to loosen the paint. Allow loosened paint to dry before rubbing it into the paver surface. Blot up any loose paint or remover. Scrub the black area with water, detergent, and scouring powder to remove tire marks. Rinse well with water. If tire markings persist after multiple tries, apply sulfuric acid (also known as battery acid) to the affected surface. Q. Will Weeds grow between my Pavers ?
A. Weeds and grass between pavers occur when seeds or spores lodge in the joints between pavers. They will not grow from underneath. This can be minimized by using Polymeric Sand or mixing a pre-emergent granular weed killer into the Joint Sand. If weeds do appear, a spot vegetation killer can be used and will not damage the pavers.
Q. How deep down do you need to go in order to make the base suitable for installing Belgard Paving ?
A. It depends on the type of ground. PaverOutlet representative will be able to guide you on this issue. Please Contact Us for further guide.
