DriBond™ is a Polymer Modified Dry Mudset. It bonds pavers over existing concrete surfaces to enhance and beautify any horizontal concrete surface with the look and feel of traditional pavers. DriBond™ is specially designed for the overlay of thin pavers (1” or 30mm) or natural stone over existing concrete. With DriBond™, there is no need to remove the existing concrete substrate, which is a costly and time-consuming process. DriBond™ is a polymer modified bonding agent that installs like sand and sets like cement.
Homeowners now have that ability to transform an old concrete driveway, patio, walkway or pool deck into a hardscape masterpiece within one to two days. DriBond™ makes the installation of pavers possible for a fraction of the cost needed to tear out existing concrete and replace it with a traditional sand-set paver installation. With DriBond™, there is no need to remove the existing concrete substrate, which is a costly and time-consuming process. DriBond™ can be installed quickly and easily over most sound concrete surfaces.
Concrete removal is costly and time-consuming and can damage sprinkler systems, underground utilities, and other infrastructure. With DriBond™, thin pavers can now be installed directly over cracked, unsightly concrete driveways or other surfaces, transforming them into hardscape masterpieces. The DriBond™ system also inhibits the growth of grass and mold and eliminates the need for long-term maintenance and repairs. Millions of square feet of thin pavers have been installed utilizing the DriBond™ technology.
DriBond™ installs like sand — filling the cracks and seams of a sound concrete slab — to provide a bedding surface for the installation of thin overlay pavers (including concrete pavers, porcelain pavers, or natural stone.) Activated with water, DriBond™ sets like concrete to create a durable bond. The result is a stunning outdoor living space with lasting beauty.

Questions and Answers |
Q. Can Dribond be used as a Jointed Sand ?
A. DriBond is not a polymeric sand, it is an advanced dry polymer mudset that was specifically developed to permanently bond hardscape paving materials to preexisting horizontal concrete surfaces.
Do not use DriBond for the jointing of pavers as it could cause irreparable damage to these. If you’re looking for a reliable and durable jointing material, consider Techniseal’s line of polymeric sand, featuring HP Nextgel and SmartSand. Q. What preparation is needed prior to using Dribond ?
A. DriBond comes as a ‘’ready-to-use’’ dry mudset, meaning no specific and elaborate preparation is needed to use it. You basically just need to spread this dry mix over a preexisting concrete surface and pavers can be laid down in a matter of hours. For more information about the application of the DriBond dry mudset for concrete overlay, please contact us or refer to the Technical Data Sheet available on the DriBond product page of our website.
Q. How dusty is Dribond ?
A. Dribond does create dust when it’s being laid down. If DriBond dust remains after spreading out the product, simply run a broom over the dust while you’re watering down the product to activate it.
Q. Is Dribond durable ?
A. A DriBond paver overlay is a rigid system. If you are using DriBond to overlay a preexisting concrete pavement, it is essentially similar to having a whole new pavement installed.
Q. Is Dribond capable of sustaining vehicular traffic ?
A. DriBond’s ability to sustain vehicular traffic has been demonstrated. Although, to stay on the safe side, this dry mudset for concrete overlay should not be used with slabs that are larger than 15"x15".
For lighter-duty pedestrian installations, such as patios and walkways, larger slabs such as porcelain tiles can be used. When in doubt, do not hesitate to reach out to our Technical Support Team to answer any question regarding the installation of the DriBond dry mudset for concrete overlay. Q. What is Dribond's shelf life ?
A. When properly stored, the DriBond dry mudset for concrete overlay has an approximate shelf life of 18 to 24 months, all depending on the humidity rate within the storage area.
Q. Is there any particular ways to store Dribond ?
A. The DriBond dry mudset for concrete overlay has a shelf life of 6 to 12 months depending on the humidity rate within the storage facility. The product can be stored outside when properly protected from the rain by its original packaging.
Q. Can Dribond be used with something other than thin pavers ?
A. Yes, DriBond can be used on a wide range of concrete overlay jobs, including the installation of concrete slabs, natural stone, bricks, clay pavers. Testing is currently being carried out to verify the suitability of the DriBond dry mudset for other hardscape substrates.
Q. Can Dribond be used over asphalt ?
A. No. Dribond is a dry mudset developed for use over preexisting concrete surfaces such as driveways, patios and walkways.
Q. Can Dribond be used with natural stone ?
A. Yes, DriBond can be used to overlay preexisting concrete with natural stone. Always follow the installation instructions specified in DriBond’s Technical Data Sheet to make sure to get the best possible end results.
Q. Can Dribond be used with porcelain tiles ?
A. Testing is currently being carried out to verify the efficiency, stability and durability of overlaying a preexisting concrete surface with porcelain tiles.
Q. Can Dribond be used with clay pavers ?
A. Yes, DriBond can be used to overlay preexisting concrete with clay pavers. To avoid any issue upon installation, you should always follow instructions detailed in DriBond’s Technical Data Sheet to make sure to get results you’re expecting.
Q. Can Dribond be used over exposed aggregate or stamped concrete ?
A. The DriBond Dry Mudset for Concrete Overlay can indeed be used over exposed aggregates or stamped concrete. However, you should know that due to the uneven particularity of these, a larger quantity of product will probably be required.
Q. Can Dribond be used with concrete slabs ?
A. Yes. DriBond can be used as part of an overlay job with concrete slabs. However, when working with larger slabs, make sure to contact us to confirm that DriBond is compatible with the kind of job you’re taking on.
Q. Can Dribond be used over existing sand-set pavers ?
A. No. DriBond is designed to be used for overlay installations exclusively on existing dry concrete surfaces. It must never be used on a flexible system, such as asphalt, sand, dirt or any type of loose aggregate
Q. Can Dribond be used in colder weather, in regions where the soil freezes ?
A. DriBond exceeds ASTM C666 requirements for freeze-thaw cycles. However, extensive tests are being carried out to ensure that the product performs accordingly in severe weather conditions. Before installing DriBond in a region subjected to freeze-thaw cycles, please contact us.
Q. How much should you wait after it rains to spread dribond on preexisting concrete ?
A. The DriBond dry mudset for concrete overlay must be spread on a completely dry surface as this product is activated by contact with water. Any DriBond applied to a preexisting concrete surface must be covered by either pavers, natural stone, or veneer. If this is impossible because of incoming or upcoming rain, you must remove any exposed product from the surface and repackage it in order to resume installation once the surface is completely dried up.
Q. Is humidity something that should be looked at when using Dribond ?
A. While installing DriBond, humidity is generally not a problem. Any product screeded onto the surface and covered with pavers or stones must be activated with water prior to the installer team leaving the job site for the day. Any DriBond dry mudset that is not covered with concrete pavers or stones must be removed prior to departing the job site.
Q. Can Dribond be spread out in windy weather conditions ?
A. Mild winds will usually not disrupt the installation of the DriBond dry mudset for concrete overlay. However, if excessive winds are blowing off DriBond as it is being screed onto the existing base concrete surface, the job should be halted, remaining DriBond product should be re-bagged. Installation can resume once winds subside.
Q. How long should you wait between spreading out Dribond and laying down pavers ?
A. Once DriBond has been properly spread out, and activated with water, you can start laying down pavers. With DriBond, a concrete overlay job such as a residential driveway can be done under 48hrs.
Q. What should be used to level out Dribond across an old concrete surface ?
A. To obtain optimal results, DriBond must be properly evened out across the preexisting concrete surface. To make this step as easy and fast as possible, the DriBond screed tool was developed. Guaranteeing an even-level surface, the DriBond screed tool also minimizes effort.
Q. What is the recommended depth of dribond ?
A. A depth of 3/8” is recommended for most DriBond applications. However, this dry mudset can be floated to a depth of 1” to address certain specific situations. For more information, please consult the DriBond Technical Data Sheet or contact us.
Q. What is the coverage rate of Dribond ?
A. At a depth of 3/8’’, a DriBond bag enables you to cover a surface of about 30 to 35 sq. ft.
Q. Does the old concrete surface need to be washed before spreading Dribond ?
A. Yes, to ensure optimal results, the preexisting concrete surface should be thoroughly washed prior to applying the DriBond dry mudset for concrete overlay. Use professional stain removers to get rid of any greasy residue, organic staining, or rusty smudge. Then, the base structure should be rinsed with a high-duty surface preparator to get rid of any leftover debris. Finally, the preexisting concrete should be pressure-washed.
Q. How about border pavers ? Why is it recommended to use borderbond ?
A. BorderBond is a ready-to-use liquid fortifier that was developed for usage with DriBond’s innovative polymer modified dry mudset formula. Once mixed with DriBond, BorderBond allows for the optimal binding of border pavers to the concrete base.
Q. When using Dribond, how should height and elevation point differences be addressed ? (ex. Garage, Curbs and Preexisting Sidewalks) ?
A. All depending on the kind of concrete overlay project you are taking on, you may encounter height difference along the preexisting concrete surface. Depending on the amount of slope and the elevation gap, the creation of a transition area might be necessary. In that case, the existing concrete should be cut and/or chiseled to adapt to the surface slope and avoid trip hazards, all the while maintaining the installation’s stability and durability.
Q. Is it necessary to repair cracks is old concrete before laying on Dribond ?
A. DriBond can be used over stress cracks and expansion joints. However, any crack or separation that’s 3/4” wide or larger must be filled with cement and covered with a crack isolation membrane prior to spreading out DriBond.
Large cracks and damaged sections must be cut to full depth and repaired with concrete. Once this is done, proper surface preparation should be done to make sure you’re working on a clean and even surface. Q. How does the Dribond limited lifetime warranty work ?
A. DriBond’s limited lifetime warranty requires that you follow the installation instructions specified in the product’s Technical Data Sheet. Some exceptions may still apply, for more information, please contact us.
