Questions and Answers |
Q. What is Gator Base made of ?
A. The panels are made of a lightweight, high-density polypropylene. They're incredibly easy to carry in and offload on a job site. Gator Base also replaces the need for the six inches of compacted crushed stone you'd use in a standard pedestrian paver installation.
Q. What is Gator Base used for ?
A. Gator Base is a foam base product that has been engineered and designed specifically for pedestrian paver installations. The panels are lightweight and incredibly easy to move around and work with.
Q. Can Gator Base be cut ?
A. If improperly installed, the Gator Base system can become unstable and not function as intended. It's also important to trim any visible curves or protruding angles using a utility knife so there is a six inch overhang of Gator Base beyond the edge of the project.
Q. Which applications are best suited for Gator Base ?
A. Gator Base is ideal for patios or walkways made from concrete pavers, natural stone, or outdoor porcelain tile. The product is especially beneficial under these circumstances :
• Make sure to follow directions on the container and thoroughly rinse it off. • Efflorescence cleaner will not penetrate a sealed surface, to remove any efflorescence that may be trapped under the sealer. • Projects where construction speed is critical (Gator Base is easy to use/install/transport, no industrial equipment is needed, and it saves about 25% in labor costs.) Q. What type of joint sand should be used for a Gator Base install ?
A. For a concrete paver installation or natural stone installation, Gator Maxx polymeric sand must be used. For an outdoor porcelain tile installation (using the Gator Tile System), Gator Tile polymeric sand must be used.
Q. Can Gator Base be used for a vertical application ?
A. Gator Base is not intended for vertical applications. However, it is perfect for patios, walkways, pool decks, and especially areas that are difficult to access and/or can’t accommodate large pieces of equipment.
Q. How does Gator Base perform in climates that experience freeze/thaw cycles ?
A. One of the greatest advantages of Gator Base is its resistance to freeze/thaw cycles. With an R-Value of 3.6 per inch, Gator Base provides the ultimate protection against the effects of drastic temperature changes. Each panel features a tongue-and-groove system which creates an interlocking base. So pavers set on top of Gator Base essentially become a single unit with better load transfer.
